Dr. Norman Saffra is one of the nation’s leading ophthalmic laser and microsurgeons, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases that cause vision loss involving the retina, vitreous, and optic nerve. He provides advanced retina care at �鶹����in Hewlett, New York, serving patients across Nassau County and Long Island.

Dr. Saffra is an expert in conditions affecting the posterior segment of the eye, including the retina, vitreous, and optic nerve. His clinical expertise spans a wide range of sight-threatening conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, uveitis, and ophthalmic manifestations of systemic disease. He also evaluates and manages complex cases involving optic nerve dysfunction and neuro-ophthalmic vision loss.

Recognized nationally for his surgical and academic contributions, Dr. Saffra frequently lectures at medical schools and to physicians across the country. He has published extensively in leading peer-reviewed journals, with over 50 scientific publications, multiple book chapters, and editorial contributions to ophthalmology reference texts. He has also been awarded two patents and co-designed surgical instruments with major medical device manufacturers.

In addition, Dr. Saffra serves as a consultant for the FDA Ophthalmic Medical Devices panel, contributing to the advancement of ophthalmic technology and surgical innovation.

He is a proud faculty member of Orbis International’s Flying Eye Hospital, an organization dedicated to training ophthalmologists in underserved regions around the world.
