Thomas Gresham Bursary Award

The 2023/24 Thomas Gresham committee is striving to ‘empower dreams, fund futures’.

Founded in 2017 by four of our Upper Eighth pupils, the Thomas Gresham Award is a wholly pupil-led appeal, fundraising to provide a 100% bursary for the highest performing pupil at 11+ who is in need of financial support.

The award is named after Old Pauline Sir Thomas Gresham (1531-1537) who founded the London Royal Exchange and was Financier to King Edward VI, Queen Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I.

Since its establishment in 2017, each year’s Thomas Gresham Committee have made an incredible effort to rally the support of the whole school community to raise funds for this bursary, raising a total of £210,000 to date! They have done this through various events and initiatives, including the annual Thomas Gresham Quiz for parents, the SPJ Readathon, Giving Day events and own clothes days.

The funding from the Thomas Gresham Committee is currently supporting two Bursary Award recipients at St Paul’s School.

"I would not have been able to come here had I not been offered a 100% bursary. As I walked rather gingerly across Founder’s Court, I resolved to create a scheme that would increase access to the school, so that boys who were sufficiently bright enough, but were from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, could attend St Paul’s."
Roma, (OP 2013-18), Founder of the Thomas Gresham Award
